Bristol UCU Newsflash, 9th November 2022

1) Bristol UCU on Strike, 24th, 25th & 30th November

Our strike days are in the diary. All 70,000 plus UCU Higher Education members will be taking strike action on Thursday, 24th, Friday, 25th and Wednesday 30th November [link].

Bristol UCU strike details to be shared next week. The branch Executive Committee and branch Reps will confirm our picket plans, important events and key information on Wednesday next week.

Lots to pin down. For example, University of Bristol Unison will also be joining us on our strike days. Bristol SU are working with the branch on informing students about the strike. All tbc.

We will also be looking to confirm our Bristol UCU Local Hardship Fund that will, as with previous Funds [link], prioritise casualised and early career staff. Before confirming the Fund’s terms, we need to establish our national UCU Fighting Fund’s level of support.

UCU has a regularly updated FAQs webpage, if members have any questions concerning taking industrial action:

Final word to NUS VP Chloe Field: ‘Universities and employers must come to the table and take meaningful action to end these disputes. They have a responsibility to their staff and students to end unacceptable pay disparities for racialised staff, disabled staff, and women, and to protect staff pensions to that they can have a decent retirement. As the workers of the future, students have everything to gain from UCU members winning this fight‘.
