Your Bristol UCU Newsflash, 13th February 2019

  1. Date For Your Diary – Marking One Year Since the Strike

Join us on Thursday 7th March as we take a short walk around some significant landmarks and remember important moments in the Great Strike, one year on. We’ll start at Celia’s bench in Royal Fort Gardens at 5pm, and finish at a pub nearby. #WeAreStillTheUniversity.

2. UCU Vice President and National Executive Committee Elections 2019

All Bristol UCU members should now have received ballot papers for elections to National Officer and National Executive Committee positions. These elections occur every year in February to elect a new Vice-President (who becomes President three years later), and half of the members of the National Executive Committee. Every two years there is also an election to the position of Treasurer, and this occurs this year.

The national officer and NEC positions are extremely important to the running of your union. Therefore it is important that those elected should be representative of your views on how the union should be run.

Please take some time to cast your ballot and make your voice heard.

If you have not yet received your A4 ballot envelope, please contact Kay Metcalfe (kmetcalfe@ucu.org.uk) providing your full name, membership number, branch, and the full postal address at which the ballot paper should have been received.

3. ‘Post Your Vote’ Photos

Thanks to everyone who came along to our ‘Post Your Vote’ event last week. It was a good turnout and it lead to a flurry of ballots being cast on the following days. You can see Julian Eastoe’s fabulous photos from the event here:
