1) 14 Days of Strikes

As announced on Monday [link], Bristol UCU and 73 other branches of UCU are taking a further 14 days of staggered industrial action from Thursday, 20th February. This follows the decision of UCU’s Higher Education Committee last Thursday. Employers were notified on Monday.

Bristol UCU Exec and Reps meet later today at 13:00 to discuss next steps. Bristol UCU branch officers will be attending a UCU briefing on Monday, 17th February.

A Branch Meeting has been scheduled for next week, Wednesday, 12th February, 13:00-14:00, G.01 Ivy Gate Building, Tyndall Avenue.

2) National Education Committee Elections – Bristol Candidates Standing

Ballot papers for UCU trustee, national office and NEC elections 2020 have just been sent out. As General Secretary Jo Grady noted in a recent email, these roles play a crucial part in the running of UCU nationally. Please do exercise your democratic right to vote.

Two members of our branch are standing (not against each other!): Madhu Krishnan for ‘representative of women members Higher Education’ and Jamie Melrose for ‘UK-Elected NEC Members Higher Education’.
