1. Protect Refugees counter-protest 15th November
Bristol UCU will again take part in the counter-protest against another disgraceful far right protest, targeting hotels housing refugees. Let us (ucu-office@bristol.ac.uk) know if you are going and would like to help carry the Bristol UCU banner. Please also pledge to attend with Bristol Anti-Racist Action here.
📍 Mercure Holland House Hotel, BS1 6SQ
🗓️ Saturday 15 Nov • 11:30 AM
2. A Poem from the Autumn All-Staff Assembly
If you attended the Autumn All-Staff Assembly on Wednesday, or watched the recording since, you may have heard things that made you raise your eyebrows or made your blood boil, depending on your disposition. One fellow Bristol UCU member wrote this poem reflecting on key points, which we thought we’d share.
All Staff Assembly
Unlike other universities
We do not have an emergency
However, we must continue
To take action with urgency
Don’t let there be rupture
In trust over the new role families
This is not a restructure
There are always some redundancies
We do not work with arms companies
We work with engineering firm subsidiaries
Who produce dual use technologies
That kill people
Some of us are paid very differently
But this is very good for the university
You see, the disparities in our salaries
Are contributions to Diversity.
