1. Staff Fair – Come say Hi!
Please do come along on November 6th between 11am and 2pm in Wills Memorial Hall. Branch officers will be there and happy to speak to any existing and prospective members. Booking for the fair itself is required via the University link.
2. UCU’s equality groups one-day hybrid conferences
- This year each of UCU’s equality groups will have a one-day hybrid conference from 11:00-16:00. The venue will be UCU head office, and the online platform will be Zoom. Those participating remotely will be able to participate fully in the conference, including voting on motions and attending workshops. When registering for the event delegates must select if they wish to attend the conference/s in-person or remotely. The days of the conferences are outlined below:
- Friday 14 November: women members’ annual conference
- Saturday 15 November: LGBT+ members’ annual conference
- Thursday 20 November: disabled members’ annual conference
- Friday 21 November: Black members’ annual conference
- Friday 5 December: migrant members’ conference
- This year the equality groups conference will have a broad theme of ‘Organising against division: building inclusive workplaces, resisting reactionary politics’. 3. Petition – Remove the flags in Bristol
At the General Meeting, the Branch committed to support various anti-racist initiatives in the city. One of these was to support this Stand Up to Racism petition for Bristol City Council to immediately remove flags hung from lampposts across the city: Petition · Stand Up to Racism – Remove the flags in Bristol – Bristol, United Kingdom · Change.org. 4. Industrial Action Ballot
Reps have this week started to remind members across the university to vote in the ballot. Do let your rep know when you’ve voted. Also take this opportunity to make sure that you affiliation and membership type is correct on UCU – ‘My UCU’. For instructions on how to post your ballot, see below.
