Your Bristol UCU Newsflash, 8th November 2017

1) General Meeting, Today, 13:00-14:00, Arts Complex LT3, Woodland Road

Agenda

i. Minutes of the last meeting 15 March 2017 [pdf]

ii. USS Update

Do you care about your pension? Bristol UCU have discussed the university’s approach to USS with the Chief Financial Officer. UCU nationally is meeting soon to discuss pension strategy. Branch officers need to know branch views. Please join the discussion.

iii. Promotion and Progression for academic staff

The University has developed proposals on progression and promotion for academic staff. This is a matter of collective bargaining and an opportunity to shape and respond to these significant proposals. James Thompson will summarise the developments so far, and seek member feedback. Come and have your say.

iv. Committee on Effective Industrial Action

The Commission for Effective Industrial Action is charged with determining UCU strategy. Set up at UCU National Congress, the Commission is tasked with generating proposals on what UCU needs to do differently, the actions it needs to take to secure better terms and conditions, job security and a pay rise for UCU members. The Commission is looking to hear from Bristol UCU members: what should UCU be doing?

2) IT Services Restructuring

IT Services is changing its organisational structure in a significant way.

These changes will impact on the front-line support you receive. In particular, the new Faculty based teams are substantially smaller than the current Zonal teams, a drop in staff numbers from 64 to 42.

Formal consultation ends on December 12th. It is important if you have concerns or questions to raise them with IT Services or with UCU while we are still in this consultation period.

A set of slides have been created to outline the changes to the new Support Group [ppt].

3) Celia’s Book of Condolence

Celia’s Book of Condolence is currently in 1d Priory Road.

IT Services have agreed to pay for a bench and plaque in Royal Fort Gardens. UCU branch officers are offering to contribute towards the refreshments for any commemoration and are planning to make a donation in Celia’s name to an appropriate cause.
