Your Bristol UCU Newsflash, 6th May 2018

1) Pay Ballot

UCU members will be emailed a ballot today, with the recommendation to reject the final pay offer from our employers.

The ballot includes the option to accept or reject the employers’ final offer, as well as asking if members are prepared to take strike action in the event of reject.

The consultative ballot closes on 27th June; the result will be considered by UCU’s Higher Education Committee on 29th June.

Please consult the Recommendations of the ‘National Negotiators’ Report to the Higher Education Sector Conference’, approved by Congress last week, page 7, for further information:

2) Congress 2018

Apologies for there being no ‘Flash last week. Most of your Newsflash team were at UCU Congress in Manchester.

Bristol UCU delegates have drafted a short report on Congress for your information:

3) #wearetheUniversity, Monday 11th June, 09:30-11:00

Thanks to everyone who has already signed up and agreed to help organise the sessions.

Still time to register:

Looking forward to building on our new found branch strength – 6th biggest branch in the UK! – and to defining ‘our priorities and demands and agree how and who will take these forward’.

4) Reimbursement of Strike Pay

Following a Bristol UCU follow-up, HR have noted that they will be communicating shortly to those University staff docked 1/260 in industrial action taken before the USS industrial action. They will be informing them when to expect reimbursement.

This follows the University’s commitment to rectify the anomaly and calculate past strike action on a 1/365 basis. Members may remember the UCU petition during the strike period calling for this.

5) IWGB Donation, University of London

UCU Executive recently approved a £200 donation to the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain branch of the University of London.

This was in solidarity with their recent ‘in-housing’ strike action in support of cleaners, security officers, post room workers and other frontline staff groups.
