3) South West HE Sector Meeting Wednesday, 9th March, 14:00-16:00, Old School Rooms, Stoke Gifford, Bristol

Bristol hosts the HE Sector Meeting for all members in the South West. Normally held in Exeter, in an effort to make the event easier to get to, the meeting has been moved to Bristol.

The venue is a 2 minute walk from Bristol Parkway Station. Travel costs can be reimbursed

5) Progression and Promotion on Pathways 2 and 3 – CORRECTION

In last week’s Newsflash we stated that Scott Greenwell will now sit on the Research Staff Working Party (RSWP). This was an error – we have asked for a UCU place on this group but proper consultation with relevant parties has not yet taken place and a decision has not yet been made.

We also inaccurately reported comments about the appropriateness of the existing role profiles for research and teaching staff in Science and Arts. To be clear, it was the view of the Chair of the RSWP that the role profile for research staff at level (a) may not expect as much of them as it should. It was the view of the UCU reps at the meeting that many teaching and research staff on level (a) in Arts and Social Sciences were working at or beyond their role profile. The separation of these points was not made clear in our text and we apologise for that.

6) Support Our Junior Doctors, TODAY, Lecture Theatre 1.4, Medical School 18:00-20:30

The next meeting of the Support Our Junior Doctors and NHS Student campaign is TODAY in the University of Bristol Medical School.

Supported by several local unions and activist groups, this meeting is called in advance of the March on Sunday 7th February, 11.30am, College Green, to protest for a safer, fairer contract for junior doctors!

7) Next Week’s Newsflash

To whet your appetite…..proposed Prevent Duty-related changes (room booking, academic freedom, training, etc.); USS; Elections to UCU’s National Executive Committee; TEF-related Motions to UCU Congress.
