Bristol UCU Newsflash, 30th June 2021

1) Emergency Online Branch Meeting

Thanks to members who found the time at short notice to attend our branch meeting on Monday. The meeting was called to seek branch members’ views on the current pension and 4 Fights disputes.

The Branch President has fed back the views expressed at Monday’s meetings to UCU HQ, this to inform the meeting of UCU’s Higher Education Committee on Friday, 2nd July.

Members are welcome to feedback to ucu-office@bristol.ac.uk or indeed to UK UCU officials and officers:

Bristol UCU branch reps are also available for any further members briefings, for example, for members in particular Schools or Professional Service Divisions.

One point that was raised at Monday’s meeting was the appetite amongst members present to be consulted individually in advance of any potential action.

2) USS Modeller

If members of the USS pension scheme wish to see the impact of proposed USS changes on their pension, UCU pension modellers are still available.

See our very own branch Bristol UCU modeller:

Exec’s and Branch Officers’ terms will start on 1st August.

4) Your Branch Needs You

UCU reps are currently engaged in representing members on a number of pressing issues, for example, a shift to hotdesking, downgrading of hourly-paid teacher roles, ensuring health and safety minimums for a new term of blending learning, fighting for the retention and recruitment of current staff, moving TSS staff over to proper employer contracts, and securing a union-friendly institutional Green New Deal.

If any of these issues, or any other matters demanding union representation, affect you, please do get in touch with ucu-office@bristol.ac.uk or your UCU rep [link].
